How lab ordering works

The whole path, from picking a panel to results landing in your Biomarkers.

Updated Sep 3, 2026

Betterness lets you order a blood panel yourself and get the draw done at a lab near you. The results come back into your own health picture, not as a PDF you have to decode.

Labs has two tabs. "Buy Labs" is the catalogue. "Manage Labs" is everything you have ordered.

The path from start to finish:

Steps

  1. 1Confirm the state you will be testing in, because panels and prices vary by state.
  2. 2Pick a panel and add it to your cart.
  3. 3Check out with a card saved on your account.
  4. 4Book your visit, or follow the emailed link when the lab books on its own site.
  5. 5Follow the preparation instructions before you go.
  6. 6Give the sample at the lab.
  7. 7Read the results in Health, under Biomarkers.

Note

Lab ordering is available in the United States only. Outside the US the Labs section is hidden. You can still upload lab results you already have and track them.

Note

There is no at-home draw. Every order is a visit to a lab.

Caution

Bett-i is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. A healthcare professional should interpret your results and make any medical decisions with you.

Choose a panel

How to narrow the catalogue, what the badges mean, and how the three named panels differ.

Updated Sep 3, 2026

The catalogue holds everything from a single marker to a full multi-system panel. What you see and what it costs depend on the state you are testing in, so confirm your state first.

Ways to narrow it down:

  • Search by name, description or a specific biomarker. Small typos are forgiven.
  • Filter by category.
  • Filter by price.
  • Filter by panel type, single biomarker or multi-biomarker.
  • Filter by the exact biomarkers you want covered.

You can also sort. The default puts popular panels first, then multi-biomarker panels, then alphabetical. You can switch to price or to name order.

Cards carry badges that tell you what you are looking at.

  • "Most Popular" marks the panels people order most.
  • A biomarker count tells you how much the panel covers.
  • "Includes Bio Age Score" means the panel contains the 9 biomarkers your biological age needs.

Three panels are worth knowing by name.

  • Ultimate is the most comprehensive single-draw assessment in the catalogue, at more than 140 clinically validated biomarkers. Fasting is required, and it is meant for once a year. It comes in male and female versions.
  • Comprehensive is a broad multi-system baseline. It is wider than an organ-specific panel such as lipids or thyroid, and more focused than Ultimate.
  • Refresh is a reassessment of more than 85 biomarkers for people who already have a baseline. It mirrors the Comprehensive backbone, so the two compare directly. It is calibrated for a gap of 3 to 6 months.

Note

Refresh is not a starting point. It is meant to be compared against a baseline you already have. It is not intended within 6 weeks of a Comprehensive.

Tip

All three are one-time orders. No membership or program enrolment is needed to buy one.

Some Teams offer member pricing on labs. When yours does, the discount is quoted on the card before you add it to your cart.

Caution

Bett-i is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. If you are unsure which panel fits your situation, ask a healthcare professional.

Checkout and your visit

Confirm your state, pay with a saved card, book the draw, and prepare properly.

Updated Sep 3, 2026

Before the catalogue will show you anything, it asks where you are testing. The screen reads "Confirm where you'll be testing", because panels and prices vary by state.

Steps

  1. 1Confirm the state shown, or choose another state.
  2. 2Add the panel you want to your cart.
  3. 3Open the cart and check the line items, the discounts and the total.
  4. 4Go to checkout.
  5. 5Check your billing details and pick the card you want to use.
  6. 6Accept the terms and confirm the order.

Note

Lab orders are paid with a card saved on your account. Betterness Credits do not apply to labs, and neither do the member credits inside a Team plan. Gift cards and discount codes are applied at checkout.

After the order goes through you see a confirmation. Your receipt is emailed to you, and "Schedule Lab Visit" takes you straight to booking. You can come back to your appointment any time from "Manage Labs".

What happens next depends on the lab. For most orders you book inside Betterness. Enter your ZIP code, pick a nearby lab, and choose a date and time.

Note

Panels run by BioReference are available in New York and New Jersey only. Booking happens on the partner's own website after purchase. You get an email with your lab order and a link to book. You can also download that order as a PDF from "Manage Labs".

Some orders ask for a few more details first, such as your address, date of birth and gender. That is what produces the requisition the lab needs. Once it is created, your order moves on to scheduling.

Prepare for the draw:

  • 72 hours before: stop supplements containing biotin, including multivitamins, B-complex, and hair, skin or nail vitamins. Keep taking prescribed medication as directed.
  • 24 hours before: avoid intense exercise, alcohol, and heavy or fatty meals.
  • 10 hours before: start fasting. No food and no caffeine, but keep drinking water. Eat before the fast starts.

Once booked, the confirmation screen shows your appointment details. It reminds you to arrive a few minutes early with a valid ID. You can view the lab order as a PDF, and reschedule or cancel from the visit card. Cancelling asks you for a reason.

Caution

Bett-i is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. Ask a healthcare professional before changing any medication or supplement ahead of a draw, biotin included.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone come to my home for the draw?

No. At-home draws are not offered. Every order is a visit to a lab.

I have no card saved.

Add one first in Settings, under Billing and usage. Checkout needs a saved payment method and billing details.

Where do I change my appointment?

In Labs, on the "Manage Labs" tab. Reschedule and cancel are both on the visit card.

Results land in Biomarkers

Where results appear, how they build a trend, and what you can ask about them.

Updated Sep 3, 2026

When the lab reports your sample, the results come back into Betterness on their own. You do not have to upload anything. They appear in Health, under Biomarkers.

From there the values stop being a one-off report. Each marker keeps its history, so a second panel months later reads as a trend rather than a fresh number.

Results also sit next to the sleep, activities and meals from the same period. If your panel covered the 9 biomarkers it needs, your Bio Age Score is calculated too.

Open any marker and use "Ask Bett-i" on that screen. She can explain what it measures, what moved, and what sits around it in your data.

Caution

Bett-i is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. The Biomarkers screen states it: "Lab results are for informational purposes only. Consult a healthcare professional for interpretation and medical decisions."

Frequently asked questions

How long do results take?

That depends on the lab and the panel. Your order stays visible on the "Manage Labs" tab until the results arrive.

Can I add results from a lab I used outside Betterness?

Yes. You can upload existing lab results and they join the same trends, from any country.
